New Friends Old Friends

While my bratty friend, Dirk was here from Jozi, we had a little dinner party - a soiree as he called it. The guest list was pinned at 6, a humble get-together with my college girlfriends and their husbands/boyfriends and/or significant others. That was the plan. And had been the plan since the idea was conceived by and demanded by Dirk several weeks prior to his arrival.

However, since we're both ambitious and unrealistic (time and space were against us) our little party turned into a most wonderful last minute gathering of old friends and new friends: Friends I met in college only a couple years ago, and friends from school, some of whom I had not seen since they left for overseas 6 years ago.

Tapas was the order of the day, cooked from Jamie Olivers 30 minute meals - which we whipped up in a 1 hour 30 minute storm. In our (and Jamie's) defense we did cook several dishes in that time.

With everything laid out - or perhaps squashed - on the table, we sat with our wine and sparkling water (for the non-drinkers) reaching across the table for helpings of warm potato salad with artichoke hearts, prawns in lemon butter, chicken and pineapple kebabs, Chorizo sausages lightly fried up with spices, Portabello mushrooms with melted mozzarella and delicious ciabatta loaf bought at Tribecca in Kalkbay...

I would say a good time was had over all. At least, I had a fantastic time hosting all my old friends and new friends and enjoying delicious food and cheeky conversation, and that is what matters... what can I say, I'm selfish sometimes.
